I love this annual competition. Crazy ideas – experimental – cutting edge – out of the box (as they say!) – weird – fun – they say if you want to learn and be creative – you should take things apart – turn them upside down – backwards – shatter ideas and then put it all together. Well that’s what they do here. Watch all 20 of the competitors entries and I guarantee you will get an education. Watch with an open mind and remember – we are looking for new stuff here!

LEED Green Building Rating System Silver Standard Adopted
In June of 2006 the Oberlin College Board of Trustees adopted a policy that all new construction and major renovations on campus have to be designed and built in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver standard. The adoption of this standard will significantly reduce the use of resources on campus in the future, as the built spaces will both be built more efficiently and perform more efficiently.

America’s supermarket bounty is deceiving. Of those hundreds of brands on grocery store shelves, the vast majority are owned by a handful of industrial food companies like Kraft, Conagra and General Mills.
This concentration of power in the hands of a few large corporations is repeated in all sectors of the food system — from Monsanto’s stranglehold on seeds, to Dean Foods and Dairy Farmers of America’s control over our milk, to Smithfield, JBS and Cargill’s near total dominance of meat processing. But there was nothing inevitable about this kind of corporate control of our food. Decades of deregulation and governmental inattention to industrial consolidation brought us our broken food system, one that features non-stop food safety recalls, an obesity epidemic and the hollowing out of rural America as family farmers are forced to sell out to corporate interests.
